Traded the challenger for her, one engine non running but cosmetically she's in pretty good shape. Barely fits in the garage lol Matt Braley sold her to a guy but I just had to have it, so I worked a deal with the buyer and traded straight up. Oh boy, another project!

Out with the old, in with the new(er)

Matt Braley was there a specific way to get this engine hatch open? I'm dying over here yanking away

Yep. Pop the storage cover by the steering wheel. You'll see a choke lever. Pull up and it will automatically open.

Thats the thing i was yanking on lol i can hear it engaging the latch, and it pops up a half an inch or so, but seems to snag and doesn't budge a milimeter after that. is there any other fail safe to get the latch open so i can get eyes on the problem?

Had to pry it open, the alignment was off. One engine running, the other turned over a bit but now just a tick. At least it's not locked up! Sucks I'm deploying in a week but excited about this boat

The port engine gets its ground from the starboard side engine. There is, or should be a ground cable that goes from front cover to front cover. Also worth a look and cleaning. I also had a problem where the one engine would turn over really fast and smooth but the other would seem like the starter was bad. Turned out it was my battery. So you might want to top that of with a charge too.

ill definitely check it out. so much to do on this boat and only a week before im gone till October. ugh, gotta love it.

I'm very happy to see that you got it. I put in a good word for you with that guy, glad it worked out.

The push struts are just a little tired on the engine cover. It just needs a slight lift from somebody as the cable under the drivers visor is pulled. I put a pair of pliers under the cable so it was held out a bit. Then I could go back and lift the cover.

It needs a intake grate on the left side. Somebody painted the bottom of the engine lid and it's peeling. The velcro on the seats does not stick well on all of them so be careful not to loose one going down the road.

I have the parts and assistance to get that toasted engine going when your ready. The guy tried to put a piston in it (I think) because I got a WSM piston box with it in the extras. He was not mechanical so that engine is gonna need a tear down.

Hopefully your impellers and pump veins are gonna be OK. I have some of those parts as well if you need them.

Awesome thanks for the tips. Yeah I noticed the p.o had done something with the head, I'll crack it open and take a peek

Well crack it open I did! Starboard pto cylinder was froze up with rust and some scoring/detonation on the piston and head. Mag was decent with a little scoring on the walls.

Also checked out the pumps, they actually look to be in good shape, the right side impeller looks to be aftermarket but in great shape. Noticed the left side weedless grate does need replacing as Matt said. Might just change the pump oil and hold off on a full jetpump rebuild until I can really see how she runs.

Fixed the radio dash but didn't plug her up, ran out of patience. It's remarkable that most of this boat is in pretty Damn good shape cosmetically though. The back support beam on the trailer is rusting through, I'll have to make note of that.

All in all I don't think it's gonna be as big a headache as I'd imagined. Those paint chips in the engine bay are the biggest annoyance so far lol.

Anyway, took some pics, I'll have till October to think on everything I'll need since I deploy Monday. Bearded Byrd will be back in action, doing work down range. Wish me luck brothers

A pic of how she barely fits in garage lol note how far up the wheel is, I had to move it way up or it would hit the I-beam. Not very sturdy as is honestly

Pulled the carbs..... Call me crazy, but that sure is a whole lot of metal shavings....

I'm thinking pull the engine, it looks toast from the bottom up..A lot of rust and crud. Does anyone know if a regular 787 will plug and play? Looks like a lot of extras are attached to this motor that I've not seen on a regular 787 from say an XP. Like this..

And this...

Yes a 787 is a 787. Those have an external fuel pump and it looks like the voltage regulator is mounted there as well. I've got a used engine in good shape I'd sell for $500. I also have pistons, gasket kits and anything else needed if you want to fix that one.

Well tax money literally just dropped and considering it's taken me 2 years to fix up those skis, I think I'll go the easier route haha when is a good time for me to swing the skis by for a run through and grab that motor?

Woot woot!

The engine is a white one from a 97SPX and it does not look to have any salt use at all on it. You will need to use the carbs(after you go through them of course) and the starter from your boat engine. We can throw a starter in to compression test when you come over.

Talk about a pain in the a$$. I didn't have a long enough Allen to remove the stinger so i had to remove the whole big bit*h, pipe, stinger, and all as a whole....without removing the engine cover. Never, ever again.

Those allen sockets are a lifesaver. I have them in 3 different lengths. Too bad you are in FL, I have a spare engine hatch in my basement taking up space.
