Dog chewed DESS

My dog chewed my buddy’s dess key and it isn’t completely chewed but no longer works ? Is there anyway to fix it ? Thanks guys !

i feel like it may not be contacting properly , either way i have someone coming out tomorrow with a computer and a new key and he will program it for me. $150 (CAD). is that a good price ? thanks

Hell no. That’s expensive! Minnetonka4me here does it for $80. For $399 you can buy the tool to do it yourself. Some dealers will program the key for free if you buy it from them.

Yeah your right i seen that tool online just today , I'm going to call my local dealer tomorrow and see what they say. Hopefully they show some love and hook me up ! Also, what do the keys alone usually cost ? thanks !

Keys are usually $45. It literally takes a dealer no more than 15 minutes so half of their hourly shop rate should be more than enough.

Keep in mind, anything Canada is roughly twice USA prices.

(sigh) I wonder if our American friends know this about us. Everything up here is a gouge. It's an important issue because something that may seem ridiculously easy to fix in the 'States might be cost prohibitive here. Mikidymac mentioned $80 USD but that's $100 CDN and after shipping to and fro, the $150 CDN may seem like a deal.

BTW, this reminds me of something interesting I've noticed about my '95 machine: half the nuts and bolts are metric and half are US/Imperial. Kinda funny and illustrates how Canada is so influenced by the US. I was a kid when we switched to metric and I still remember when they switched all the road signs, etc. But people still say they weigh 200lbs and I would never say "it's 6 metres" instead of the more intuitive (to me) 20 feet. For whatever reason though. speed (km/h) and temperature (C) seem natural in metric.

I guess my point is I guarantee that's why the older skis (maybe the new ones too? no idea) are stuck between eras with both metric and imperial specs.

This American knows. I have some Canadian members of an aircraft forum I conversed with regularly. Surprises me how often people don't recognize the difference in currency let along pricing. The European motorcyclists pay twice as much for a motorcycle as we do... at least that is what they complained years gone by. We have it pretty darn good over here.

hey guys , thanks for all the input. So i ended up getting the guy to come right to my door and program me a new key for $130 , figured that wasn't too bad of a deal considering the dealer wanted $140 for the key and programming and i had to bring it to them. Plus he came Saturday morning right before we went out to ride !

Did you read the posts above?

Either a dealer, someone with a programmer locally or send your computer off to Westside Powersports Seadoo.

130$ CDN was a bit expensive IMO. I remember a dealer making two for me and I do not remember paying as much (but it was at least 75$ ou 95$ per key I think). If you got home service, I would imagine the cost is higher.

Also, if you ever have more problems, you'll have to replace the DESS post. Worked for me.

Hello Everyone, Forgive me if I sound like an idiot but when it comes to any of this I am... I am a 53 y/o female who has decided to buy a seadoo 1998 speedster boat. I paid 5000.00 runs great but the speedometer and fuel gages dont work and the 2 tachometers and key work on and off.
I know its sounds crazy but I love the boat and decided to make it a project. My bf is a mechanic who uses to work on offshore boats so we figured he might be able to pull this off with me. Hes game but Im trying to make this as east as possible do Im foing my homework and need ALL the advice I can get. For starters, a Key! no pun intended.
We replaced the battery 2 days ago after it exploded on me while I was trying to start engine. ( small screw popped off and still cant find the caps ... I think they melted.?Thanks . Helena (Thib, LA)

No, just soldered chip onto back. I then encased back in epoxy, in a plastic cap, having the prongs extending out the front.

It's a randomly generated code where they are all different.
