I have a used sbt balance shaft for my 951di that i want to rebuild. It has obviously been rebuilt once. It has been marked for realignment. The one mark is slightly off now leading me to believe it has moved. It came in a used case so I have never ran it. Original sbt case and balance shaft was destroyed. Should I have the shaft welded after rebuilding it? Thank you.

when I do balance shafts for these engines, I spot weld the gears and weights.

It wouldn't hurt to do on a DI, especially the 3rd piston end. Just need a tiny little tack.
