Do I need to keep these tools?

Hi all,

I have a 2004 GTX 4-Tec S/C and I bought a Riva shaft holder tool, a 16/17 tooth gear tool and a set of new clutch washers with the intent of tackling a washer replacement on my own. I have since decided it would be best to send it out for a total rebuild instead but now I am stuck with this stuff. My question - is there any benefit to keeping these tools for future use or repairs/maintenance, or would I be better off trying to sell them?

Thanks,

Brian

How much longer do you intend on keeping the ski? When /if you sell, the next owner may appreciate having some tools to go along with his new ski.

I plan to keep the ski for quite awhile as it is in excellent condition and still looks very new even though it is almost 10 years old. I just didn't know if there was any other maintenance or issues that would require the use of these tools where it would be worth keeping them around. Since buying the ski I have added quite a few new tools to my toolbox, but they are all tools that will get use nearly every season. Ultimately I don't want to sell them at a gimme price ( depending on the market for them) only to kick myself later if I had another issue come up besides a rebuild. I guess that's a common dilemma for having specialized tools like these.

Thanks for the feedback regardless!

what's a shaft holder tool?...wrench lookin thing used for sc rebuilding? Could always sell later...."like new".

What I would buy...prop removal tool....long one. Allen socket...12mm I think....1/2" drive...and a 1/4" box end.

I have seen a few different prop removal tools out there. Is there one better than another that you recommend? I recently changed the pump grease but the impeller and ring looked ok best I can tell, and I haven't had any issues that seem to accompany a bad wear ring.

Thanks again for the info!

No...dunno the makes...should cost around $45. If you opt for the cheaper short one...you'll have to remove the nose cone to remove the prop from the pump. Not necessarily a bad thing...but sometimes can be a btch re-installing so that it won't later loosen and walk up the shaft...costing you hidden performance probs and speed.

I removed my nose cone years ago....speed improvement and well as better hole shot...the cost is vigilant pump greasing. I wouldn't recommend running w/o a nose cone in salt water.
