Yes, you need it as it directs air and any water into the bottom of the bilge, that is why seadoo put it there in the first place.

Air and sound baffle and it clicks in under the back of the seat.

Most manufactures regularly include extra parts with products. It adds 'value' to them. By adding things like Headlights, Tail Lights, wipers, and even seats, you can see the value. Those of us in-the-know often remove useless things. Tires. Headlights. Engines
