Hello everyone. I have been a in the back ground kind of guy for some time now. I just bought a seadoo site unseen by me. Well my dad actually looked at it but he is like me and really new to pwc. I bought a 2000 GTX carb millenium. It has no trailer. It has 120 hrs on it. the guys sold it due to it not running strong any more. He had a dealer tell him it needed rebuilt so he bought a new one. I had my dad pull a compression test on it and it was 145/70. So i think a topend would get it back in shape. But what do you guys think? I paid 500 for it. Dad says that the hull is almost perfect condition with the gray a little faded on top.
thanks in advance

If your doing the work yourself then its for sure a good deal! Post up a picture when you get her home! The GTX is a great jetski and at that price well worth the cost of repairs!

I will be headed to get ski the end of the week. As soon as I get it home I will post pics of it. I sure hope all it needs is a topend and the basic stuff fixed to make it a good ski. I will be doing all the work on the ski myself. I do all my own wrenching on my atvs and bikes so I see this ski as no different.

Yeah im the same way,i would rather do the work myself than pay for it getting done by someone who might not have the attention to detail I'll have. Make sure you find the root cause of the flat cylinder. With that big spread in compression readings, I'd be looking for a reason. Good luck and congrats!!

I will second the - Good Deal!

That is assuming when you do the top end, it returns to running strong.

But, there was a reason that one cylinder lost compression. Opformark mentioned this and it is important...You must figure out why it lost compression otherwise, your new top end job may just have to performed again soon after you finish it.

Ok guys i will have pics posted soon. I just got back tonight with it. It is alittle rougher than first thought but i ended up only giving $300. Main problem is the silver is faded, seat needs recovered, missing right side piece on back that is like a fin. Bottom of the ski looks good from what i can tell.

Do they make a replacement seat cover for these skis like you can get for atvs and bikes? Be nice to have a gripper seat or gel padded one.

Where is the best place to buy the rubber mat the is where your feet go?

Yes, they make replacement seat/covers. Be careful about the "grippier" seats. Unless you always wear a wet suit, they can be havoc on your legs/thighs on long ride days. They are easy to find; lots of online stores sell them. Also, quite often you can buy used OEM seats on Ebay.

Hydro-Turf seems to be the most popular replacement mat. Look at the top of the page for the PWCMuscle link. You can get it there.

Ok after some stripping down of the ski I figured out it is a 2001 gtx not a 2000. I never dreamed of so many pop rivits holding the rubber rail on.

I would of had the dang motor out but I need a special wrench to get the exhaust header off. one dang bolt holding up process. I have decided to do a complete rebuild after pulling the head off. I will endup having a little more in the ski than first planned but I think it will still be worth the effort.

Here is what is on the board of the to do list....
Rebuild motor
new crank bearings
new crank
new gaskets
new cylinder and pistons
new head
all new fuel lines
rebuild carbs

Hull
paint top
put new seat cover on

Guys am I missing something that needs to be checked or replaced?

well you are this far..I would pull the pump and install a new wear ring and change the pump oil...also check the bearing in the pump itself.
