Can you rebuild the dess key? Mine seems not to want to fit well anymore. I was at Academy Sports today and saw a universal key that had a dess housing. Can I put my metal strip or whatever you call it in a new housing with out having to reprogram it? I do so wish you could modify these to have a simple key. Thanks guys.

Ohh yeah and can I download a full shop manual somewhere for free? I am on a tight budget till my arm heals and that looks like another 2 to 3 months.

You can get a manual for that boat, on this site, if you become a premium member. Just join for one month, and you can drop it after that.

As far as the DESS... once it's turned on... it can't be turned off.

The DESS isn't just a contact. There is a chip in the lanyard. When you put it on... the computer reads the chip, and comes to life. If it see's the wrong code... it doesn't start.

If you are good with a soldering iron... you can put a key switch in the boat. Just solder your lanyard into the system, and put a key switch on the power line. Then... when you turn the key... the chip will already be there.

Cool thanks. Might try that. The plastic part that holds on seems to be worn out and not holding well. Anyone know about how much it is to reprogram a new one here in Ga? The one I saw at Academy did not have a metal part to it it was just the plastic housing I think.

If it is fitting loose, get a plastic tie strap and wrap it around the outside to squeeze it up some. Just don't tighten it up so much it won't go onto the post. My DESS was loose and that is what I did. Fits tight now.
