I installed the Sea Doo depth finder the other day. Install was about a 7 on a scale of 1-10 for me anyway. I have it plugged in and it shows on the screen but I only get dashes for the depth out of water. I am going to test it in water this weekend, but wanted to know if that was normal?

Also I noticed a little surface corrosion on the voltage regulator. Can I spray silicone or XPS on it to prevent future corrosion?

Thanks.

I do not have the depthfinder so cant say for sure. BUT that is much the same way others work on boats I have had in the past.

Yes you can and should spray any metals in the engine compartment especially if they are showing any deterioration.

With a ski,,, I always felt if you can see the bottom you know the depth kind of thing. I've owned a few boats and always had a depth gauge, but with the ski, by the time you see it on the meter I would hope you would see it in real life..

I also have (2) 2013 GTR-215's and on one of them I had the dealer install a depth finder when I purchased them... I showed up on the day I was to take delivery and they forgot to do the install so I had to come back to the dealer ( 1.5 hour drive each way) for the install. Mechanic installs it and says i am good to go. I get home and launch the ski and in three feet of water it says I am in 145 feet of water...ugh..so I drive back and he says must be a air pocket in the adhesive he used. Does it again and it works fine for 5 runs. yesterday while riding I hear a thumping noise in the engine compartment and look to see the DF just flopping around after the adhesive he used broke free. NOT going to drive back to dealer again and would like to install myself this time but I do not have the booklet to show how they want it placed and or the glue they use. If anyone can help by showing an image or two of the mounted location and the direction it faces and any tips I would be very grateful.

I won't be able to take a picture until the weekend because my skis are not at the house, but I found my directions laying around that I took a picture of. You will need a new gel pad though before installing. There was a metal bracket that came with the kit. Make sure you have that and the two bolts. The dealer must have done something wrong. Mine is great and I have taken it out in the ocean a few times. 20150714_191757.jpg

It mounts under the exhaust tube in the middle of the ski in the rear. There are two screw holes in the hull already from the factory.

Yah I think the moron installed the wrong one. He glued mine to the far left rear inside engine compartment. No screws or nothing. Very upset. Can you toss me the part number of yours?

Wow, glued it to the bottom. Did he use the correct SeaDoo one that is square and not round? This is a really easy install. The only thing even remotely challenging is opening up fuse box and installing a wire but the instructions even make that simple since they left you a spot for it. As far as mounting the unit to the hull, SeaDoo thought ahead and basically provided a location where it mounts and all it takes is 2 screws with the provided bracket that screw into bosses that are already molded into the hull. Seriously doesn't get any easier than that.
