Decision Dilemma

Ok folks, the same old story, what should i buy.

I've been torn between buying an older ski, a nearly new to a brand new Sea Doo.
Every time i think i've got my mind made up i bottle it and change my mind.
I've pretty much ruled out a brand new machine, unless i opt for an entry level Yamaha model mainly due to cost and i don't expect to get any positive answers on that here.

So, one option i am looking at is a 2007 RXT.
If my research serves me right this model doesn't have VTS? that being the case, should i change my strategy and make sure i get a machine with it? is it a must have?

I'm relatively new to jet ski's, but, have ridden motorbikes so speed isn't essential but a nice to have which the RTX does have.
I'll be on mostly salt water off Pensacola so the closed loop system appeals to me with a simple wash down after every use.

Any opinions greatly appreciated

Edit: Apologies, just realised i posted this in the 2 stroke section, can a kind mod move it to the 4 stroke?

Yeah I was looking at new vs. used too. The thing is that for what I was looking for it was to much money. If you bought a newer one off of craigslist or something you have to fork over all the cash at once, and if you are looking at something for around say $5000 to $7000 that can cut into some savings. So, I decided to just buy a new one. I figured it would be easier to make payments. This way I got myself a new ski with no problems and I can just put it in the water and go. (Let's hope anyway) Also, the dealer gave a 5 year warranty as their promo. So to me it's a win win. Of course I didn't get it yet but the dealer said it should be any day now. So, that's my take on the whole thing, for what it's worth.

Sound advice and one i hadn't considered.
I even have a 2010 motorbike i can trade in for a ski and also an older motorbike, decisions right enough.
I'm going to a local dealer next week so i'll see if there's any deals to be had

Anyone have an opinion on VTS? is it considered essential to have, i've gotta make my mind up pretty quickly on a 2007 RXT

I don't think it's a must have I have it on my xp I don't use it much at all and my friend gti don't have it and ride is great

Take note that the supercharger needs rebuilding roughly every 80 hrs on all supercharged models.

I perfer the much smaller, more nimble 96 XP 97-99 SPX.

More good info, thanks, interesting about the supercharger as i was looking to minimise maintenance, especially with the closed loop cooling. Hmm, more things to digest

Minnetonka...newbie, but working hard at it! check out my thread on 94 gtx compression, and any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Well folks, finally made my decision and it won't be to everyone's approval on here, i took onboard all the advice and info i could gather and decided to buy a new Yamaha FX HO.
Getting it tomorrow and heading straight to the launch.

I'll continue to hang around here as being mechanically minded i like the interaction between the members who's craft are not running right and seeing the educated answers and general help being offered.

So, thanks to everyone who helped make up my mind

In the end it's all about having fun on the water, no matter what is under you!! Good luck and have fun with your new ski. :patriot:

Here is something to consider.

Do you want to stunt around with your PWC?
How Heavy is the PWC?
How big is your towing car?

Light and powerfull PWC like the Seadoo XP, GSX etc with the rotax 951 will be a joy to stunt around and blast off down the lake with.
Not familiar with other brands of light and powerfull PWC so other users will have to chime in.

The big heavy PWC seems more like a boat, so just buy a boat then since boat will likely be more usefull and hence more fun.

I figure if you are not getting wet and splashing around a lot then why even bother with a PWC.

To me the excitement of a PWC is doing your best to fall off, but not so often as to be unpleasurable.

Thats my take on it.

Maybe a Seadoo Jet Boat would be a good cross between a heavy PWC and a boat for you?

I just bought a 1999 Seadoo Speedster for doing longer trips, not getting as wet and keeping out of the rocks on the CO river
but still enjoying a level of PWC type excitement.

Well, today launched the ski for the first time, had a great time and got utterly soaked, exactly why owning a jet ski is so good fun.
Towing vehicle is a suburban and my cousin also has a ski so we share a double trailer and it pulled it just fine.
2 hours on the first run and we had a great day.

Plenty more to come
