I recently bought a 1997 challenger. There is one 787 and it turns over if I jump the solenoid but other than that nothing turns on. All the fuses are good. I load tested my battery and it is good. I cleaned the batt connections as well as the ones on the MPEM. I have verified there is 12 v and a good ground to fuse block in the storage compartment. I get no gauges or beep when I put the key on. I verified the buzzer works by connecting it directly to the battery. I checked the key post with a multimeter and showed that while disconnected there is no resistance and 1 ohm between the black and black/yellow when the key is attached. When the post is connected and the key is on I get various resistance from white/grey, black/yellow, and black wires. My fuse block is not entirely glued to the tray that it is supposed to.
1. Is it possible that the ground has gone bad in the sealed fuse block?
2. Is there a better way to test the MPEM without just eliminating all other possibilities?
3. Is it possible that the key could be wrong and get no noise from the buzzer?
4. Is the DESS located in fuse block or is it in the MPEM?

As soon as it stops raining I will try to trace the ground behind the dash and be sure all switches are getting it. Any advise would be appreciated.

you checked the 5 amp fuse inside the MPEM?

I belive if the DESS key was bad you get at least one beep.

Yes all the fuses are good. Wish I had more time to work on it. I was able to get it to run the other day but after three turnovers everything died again. I had found a bad circuit and replaced it and that made the mpem click. Since then the unit will not click when the battery is disconnected and connected. The buzzer works when hot wired but makes no noise when the key is put on the post. When it did fire the buzzer made one beep. Any advise with mpem or help with the boat is greatly appreciated

Be sure the Lanyard post is clean. Check the ground wire going to the engine near the starter. It is the direct ground from the battery. It should be clean and have a good connection. It might look ok, but be corroded inside. If in doubt cut it off and install a new end.
You shouldn't hear any click if your installing the cables properly...Positive +cable on first, then Negative-. To remove the battery cables the opposite. Negative- first, Positive + last. It is possible that the cap is bad and it isn't communicating to the MPEM. Use a soapy cleaner on it, rinse it and leave it dry. Don't use any lubes or grease on it. If it has a wrong Lanyard cap it will still beep to tell you...no beeps it isn't communicating to the mpem.

I have cleaned the post and the keys. When I did get the motor to start both keys worked. I still get nothing when the key is attached. The wiring from the key to the mpem is good. I have always disconnected and connected the battery the correct way. I assumed before that the click that I heard came from the solenoid. I have read that when the Mpem goes it normally blows the 5A fuse. Mine is good. I believe that the mpem and key are not communicating and believe that it is on the mpem side. Is there anyway to test the mpem without buying a new one? Thanks for all the help
