I have a 657X that I'm fixing up, I also plan on using premix since it didn't have an oil injection system when I bought it, I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff and I'm learning as I go, My question is: what type of oil should I get to keep the bottom end of the engine lubed? I've looked it up online and I'm finding oil to premix fuel with..is it the same type of oil? What am I Missing here?

The injector oil or in your case the premix lubes the crankshaft, in a 2-storke there is no crankcase oil. A 657 has no counterbalance shaft so no oil there either. Use API-TC rated mineral or synthetic oil for your premix.

I have an oil tank located above the fuel tank, should I just consider it useless then and pull it out?

What about the orifices that the oil hoses go to from the oil tank, should I cap it?

Nope, need oil for the rotary valve, it's a drip feed, so you either need to leave the oil tank in place, or you can make a loop system.

So then from what I gather from you, I can fill that tank with what you had mentioned as well as use it as premix?

Yep, however you really don't need to fill the tank, the oil is really not used, you only need enough oil in the tank to drip feed the rotary valve then the oil returns to the tank, if you fill the tank about 1/4 full that will be plenty of oil.

Not sure if your ski model has it, but mines a 96 and I kept the oil level below the minimum bc my ski had the red oil light that would come on if oil was low. I know ppl say oil is expensive so they would've just grounded out the oil sensor wire, but I figured it was a one time fill, and I didn't want to mess with any electrical if I didn't have to.. So.. I didn't like riding with the red light as my subconscious sensed "trouble" and I'd always catch myself paying more attention to that light than it deserved, so I just topped it off

Thanks, 96spxpos.. it doesn't even have working guages lol, a gauge is on my "to get" list. I bought this ski for cheap it sat under the guys tree in his backyard for who knows when, looked as if it was pulled out of a swamp, its gotten alot of TLC and revitalizing since then but still a work in progess, I should post some pics i of my progress so far...

Yep, if you have the feature may as well fill the tank till the red light goes out. This leaves you a warning system to remind you to keep some oil in the tank.

Enjoy your little '94, love those things! :)
