Hi Folks, i have just purchased a 1997 challenger single engine. My problem is the previous owner has said he disconnected the oil pump and now uses premix fuel and oil. How can i verify this as everything seems to be hooked up still, and the oil light is comming on? I find the engine is smoking much more than normal as well. Is there an easy way to condem the original oil pump system and switch to premix? (like pinching an oil hose)
Anxiously awaiting any comments!

Trini...find the oil line with the inline filter. That one feeds the oil pump (located on front of motor (mag housing)). If nuth'n pinched on that line, then you'll need to remove the oil pump (2-bolts), and pull unit "lightly" to see if theres a white plastic "stick" behind it. If so, then you dont have the system blocked off/bypassed, but you do however, have a substantial amount of oil in the combustion chamber....premix AND injection.

While there, inspect the 2-little oil lines also, they're proned to crack.

unbolt the oil pump, pull back enuf, to remove the "plastic" drive shaft, then bolt up the pump again.

When premixing, use 40/1 mixture...5gal=16oz oil.

Thanks.....One question about the water flushing ports. There is one on the topside with a cap, and one below back without a cap or oneway valve. Is this acceptable as i'm wondering if the back one is supposed to be capped as well?

there is a separate feed to the block wich is fed through the oil res so make sure you dont block this and keep your oil res toped.

Thanks Ski33, any input for this question....

use the one on top deck. It wont allow the motor to be overcome by water pressure. Dont cap the back off. Make sure, you fire motor up, then turn water on, then turn water off, then after 10-20 seconds, turn motor off.

Thanks guys, gonna run the boat this weekend, will let ya know how she runs. Took a look at the wear ring from the outside and its all scraped so i think it will need changing. The clearence seems good between blades an rings though. But last time we ran the boat, (which was the test drive before i bought it) it was a bit slow outta the hole, but it was also maxed out on weight, three bigt men topping at least 580lbs easily. I also find she's idling a bit high, around the 2500 mark, may need to pull down carbs as well....
