Color underneath the old sticker is brighter than the area exposed.

New registration sticker arrived. Yeah!
When I took off the old registration numbers I have noticed that the area covered by the old sticker is whiter than the other area. I can still see the "ghost" numbers still in the gelcoat.

The whole body is still smooth and shiny. It looks more like a UV color fading thing instead of surface oxidation.

Has anybody been dealing with this?
Just checking before I put the new sticker on.

Thanks

With more research I have confirm that it is simply UV fading over the years (especially the first 3 years in its life).
Well now I am seeing the "original white" of the ski. I don't think I will try to bring all the rest of the hull back to the original white, especially 98% of the original decal are still on and in good condition. Buffing around the decals is just trouble I would think. And I have never done buffing. LoL

go ahead and take some compound to the area and buff it while the reg stickers are off, just focus on that area for now to see if you can minimize it so its not obvious. I just did the same thing on a 04 GTX, and after 5 minutes of buffing I said fark it and put the new stickers on, you can still barely spot the old numbes but only if your staring right at it, also, over time, the sun/water will help to fade out the newly exposed area so its a better match :)

Ditto. Most people probably won't even notice, but you will. I've found other things that need my time to focus on so I also didn't spend much more time than 5 minutes on it.

You are right. Nobody else will ever even notice it. If anybody does, I will just throw him into the water. LoL.
Plus, it only gets better :)
(But actually, it won't. The "original" color won't fade as fast as the first 3 years anymore. The UV decoloring process extremely slows down after 3-5 years.)

"Pick your fights" is my tag line.
