I have a 2005 Seadoo RXT that the previous owner had clear coated over. It had a few smaller spots where the clear coat had started chipping up and the worst areas are where the old registration stickers were as I had to use a razor blade to get them off so the area is stripped back down to gel coat.
I assume the easiest fix would be to feather out the area with wet sanding and re clear coat the affected areas which I’m not opposed to doing. If I go this route what would be the grit I would need to use for this process as well as any recommendations on the best clear coat to use?
I’m also not completely opposed to stripping the clear coat completely, buffing out the dull gel coat polishing it then waxing it to bring back its original shine just hesitant as the rest of the clear coat looks really good. If I go this route what would be the best method to strip and remove the old clear coat? I already have the buffing, polishing, and waxing compounds as well as pads as I’ve worked on gel coat before on other skis just never with a clear coat over it.
I’ve also added pictures of the areas that need the work. First one is the main eyesore which is same on opposite side and second is a smaller spot not very noticeable.
