First of all I would like to say thanks for allowing me to post here. I have had previous ski's before, but never a sea-doo. I recently bought a 2000 GS and a 2000 GTI. I have had to replace both oil resevoir's as they were leaking. The ski's "ran" when I bought them from a family member. When I try and to start the GS, it is really loud and sounds like it has a "clanking loose piece of metal banging around" on the the engine. Once it starts it sounds like the other jet ski, runs good and the sound dissappears. My question is this, is it possible the starter is loose and once it's done engaging the sound goes away? Has anyone heard of this or might it be something else someone would suggest? If it is the starter, how hard is it to check and tighten in it's current location? Thanks for the help in advance and I'm much appreciative.

your starter, i believe is on the front left side of the motor(if your sitting on it) 2 bolts holding it on, not that hard... i just had the same problem. but my starter was gone, from alot of starts and short distance rides... but on the other hand if you need a new one it wont hit you that bad I bought mine on e-bay for $123.19, that was shipping and all!!!

Thanks daverade. Did your jet ski start at all or was it just noisy? What was it doing if not? I appreciate your time.

just like my jeep some times it would crank no prob... sometimes loud grinding unwind but once started we were all good...some times just a loud click and and sieze...same with a car its just a starter 2 bolts it's out. a power lead and in most cases a ground lead... i have mine grounded to the lil block!!! no problem

If it is your starter don't bother buying a new one unless it's beyond repair. You can buy a rebuild kit for less than $30 bucks on ebay.

starters' located underthe pipe. Think your hearing the movement of the impellor

well good luck ill wait to hear from you in the morning.... goin to the suns game tonight!!!! but i hope somethin gives for ya!
