Hi all

Can someone tell me if the one way check valve that is used for the RAVE Valves can be easily blown through one way with your mouth?
I took mine out just to see if it may be blocked and couldn't blow through it. Is this normal? I can squirt wd40 through it but not blow through it.

Cheers

So could it mean mine is faulty if i can't blow through it in the direction it indicates with my mouth but with 20psi compressed air it will? I was thinking it should be easy to blow through one way with very little resistance.

i would think so but i will let someone that knows for sure chime in on that one. it may be possible that certain ck valves depending on what it is used for. some may act like a pop off valve at a specific psi. calling on anyone that knows. or download a shop manual.

edit: i did a search in the manual and the parts catalog and could not find any info.

i owned a 99 gsx rfi and don't recall it having a check valve for the raves unless you are talking about the rave solenoid?
i also checked the manual and it has nothing on it.

Thanks mate. I have the workshop manual but nothing is mentioned in it apart from being a one way valve.

Hopefully this works. The photo that shows it in position is just in loosely.

yours being a newer model that what i had is placed in a different area. your appears to be just behind the pto on top and the one i had was under the off to the side. if i still had mine i would see how mine works. hopefully someone will chime in and help out.
i'm not sure if it is simply a one way valve or works like a pop off valve. meaning some pressure needed before it releases.

Cheers mate. It would appear it needs some pressure to operate but just want to confirm before i buy a new one. Once i rebuild the RAVE valves ill start it up and see what it does.

The arrow goes away from the block crankcase pressure opens the raves.

Can't take too much pressure to open I wouldn't think.

the OP says he cant blow air though it with mouth but will with 20 psi air pressure. do you think it's bad?

No it isn't if i try and blow through it. I tried 20psi compressed air and it did the correct way. I know its supposed to stop the negative pulses and only allow the positive pulses through which gradually inflate the bellows in the RAVE valves. Just not sure if this is the way its meant to operate or not thats all. When i get the rebuild kit for the RAVES ill start it up and see if pressure comes through them i know the RAVES are working.
I'm doing all this as a systematic approach to it finding out why it is bogging down as i have mentioned in previous posts.
Since my last outing i have cleaned the fuel filter and hose, cleaned the injectors and rail, cleaned out the water valve on the muffler, will rebuild the RAVES when the kit comes in and then will take out again.
The Stator checks out continuity and insulation wise, need to find a OEM Regulator here (Australia) if not will by from a guy on here if it can be here before Xmas.

Yeah pretty much from idle to about 4300rpm then takes off with a little cavitation and then shoots off to about 6200rpm. I think you may have suggested a lazy injector.
I have replaced the plugs too and gapped to about 18 thou (looks to small to me). I forgot to mention too since last outing i drained the fuel and put fresh fuel in again.

Ok so an update on what i have done.
Cleaned the injectors, fuel rail, hose, regulator pump and filter.
Regapped the plugs to 22 thou.
Rebuilt the RAVE Valves with new O rings and rubber gaskets.
Tested the RAVE Solenoid.
Rebuilt the Water RAVE Valve.
Tested the Stator.
Replaced the Rectifier with an OEM one.
Drained fuel tank and put fresh fuel in.
Still yet to put it in the water but i hope the bogging down issue is gone!
One question re fuel. In Australia we have 91, 95 and 98 RON petrol. Manual says 91, would it still run fine with 95?

Latest update and it seems as though the bogging down issue is fixed! It ran like a dream for about an hr. It only needed a bit more than half throttle to maintain full speed (85kmh) which i think was good! Max revs were about 6700rpm. The only issue it had was after slowing to a stop and letting it idle for a few minutes. It got boggy for a bit but cleared almost straight away. Only did this occasionally.
It still won't put out more than about 13.2 volts either which I'm thinking maybe the stator is on its way? Other than that i am wrapped!

Stop the presses. Half throttle and 6700 rpm you have something seriously wrong or out of adjustment

I should re write that and say it will go full throttle with no problems but if i back off to about half throttle it doesn't loose revs or speed. I don't expect it to get to the rev limit especially with 2 people on it. Could i be wrong?

The revs should always respond to the throttle. Does it run away at idle (rev by itself )
