I recently had an issue with my 94 xp with the 657x motor in her. When I got it home I started it and it ran for a minute or so and then just died. Upon trying to restart it it would turn over super slow with only 6 -7 volts coming from the battery, a new battery at that. So I pulled the motor and got to tearing apart the stator cover and low and behold the stator was completely fried.. I installed a different used stator, put the motor back in and started it up... it starts good and seems to run good on the trailer... but I notice when I hook up my multimeter to it the volts jump all over the place while it’s running...when I shut it down it goes back to the 12.79 volts..what could be going on here. Can my rectifier be fried to!

Yes, rectifier is suspect....you should have 14.4 to 14.6 vdc on battery while running, voltage would be coming from .the rectifier/regulator. Your stator puts out AC current

Here’s the rub on rectifiers though....I’m on my third and still having intermittent issues....sometimes I get a nice 14.4 on the battery, sometimes it’s erratic like you described originally.....I haven’t found the holy grail rectifier yet....hope you have better luck than I

Standard on the rectifier is high 13 volts typically 13.5.
NO arguments here..I went by what I read in 2 different service manuals.....

Directly lifted from a 1993 & a 1996 service manual -> 587 / 717 engines , regulator output 14.5 to 14.8 volts, 787 engines, regulator puts out 14.5 to 14.8...ANYTHING over 15V...rectifier/regulator is bad [paraphrased]. A faulty regulator will allow voltage to exceed 15V as engine speed is increased.

I'm wishing is could get a steady 13.5 reliably...not there yet on my '96 but I'm still trying ;)
