Hello all,

I bought a 1992 XP and a 1992 GTS a while back. They were full of oil when I bought them about two months or so ago. I am now to the point where I need to add oil, but I've been reading throughout various sites that you are not to mix synthetic and mineral oils and of course I didn't ever think to ask the previous owner what kind of oil was currently in them. I ended up buying some mineral oil (mainly cost factor right now) and the filters for the oil. My question now is, how do I change it? I change the oil in my cars all the time in my sleep, but I've never done a jet ski. I've got a shop manual that came with them, but it does not specify how to do an oil change, it only describes the oil system and mechanics behind it, but not oil changes. I have the owner's manual as well, but that doesn't seem to explain how to change it either. :ack:

I'm leaving for four days to Needles, CA. to ride the Colorado on Monday and would appreciate any help anybody can give me on changing the oil in these puppies. Thanks.

you could get a vacuum and suck the oil out of the tank and lines but remember to bleed the lines after you put new oil in. I'm not real convinced that you can't mix mineral and synthetic...it's done in automobiles in the form of a "blend". Maybe someone could provide some real world experience of something bad happening from mixing them.

when i pull a motor, i take the top hose off the tank. then i blow into it. it pumps all the oil out of the RV cavity and into the tank. pinch the lower hose, and remove it from the motor. now you can drain the tank from the lower hose into a pan you put down low in the ski. personally i don't think it is necessary either...

Changed the oil, now for bleeding, right?

So i was able to change the oil in one at least for the moment. I pumped out all the oil i could with a manual pump. There still seemed to be some more in there that I couldn't get to. I left that in there an added the new oil. That shouldn't be a cause for trouble, should it? I was also not able to get the oil out of the hose coming from the top of the oil bin. That shouldn't make a catastrophic difference, should it? I also changed the oil filter. Now I just have to figure out how to bleed the system of air, since it says in the manual it should be done. Thanks for your all your tips.
