2000 with 210 carbs. cranks over to no end but will not fire. I have owned boat for 5 years now and last year first started to act up. was driving full speed and died, restarted and would not rev. when I tried to rev engine would die. then started running fine. Now this year has been more like starts when it wants to, cold or hot. today wont start at all.

first, check the compression, and make sure you have spark while the plugs are out.

If that checks, clean the carbs.

no start

I checked top to cylinders for spark. both banks have no spark. assuming no start means no spark to all cylinders. however now when testing found stator out of spec on inner switch box circuits. red/white and blue/white wires open circuit. confused though, other side good should I have spark on one bank of engine? Also what should I find at CDI kill circuit. voltage, ground or open? both sides ignition switch side and switch box side of circuit? nothing explains in my lay terms what I should have at either half. BIG question would half of stator bad cause both banks (engine) not to run?

A few things....

First, don't double post. It just confuses things.

Second, you have to give it a little time. There are only a few guys who know the Merc engines.

Third... did you check the compression? I know you are saying it has no sprak... but we should check all the basics.

Generally, the kill to the CDI will be a ground, but on some CDI units (such as the seadoo 800 engines) it is a digital signal.

On that Merc CDI... there can be a few things. The Electronic control module may be sending the CDI a "Kill" via a ground, or, there may be an open coil in the stator (but that would probably kill one bank) or, the trigger plate has gone bad.

This is assuming that there are no mechanical issues like cut wires, or melted plugs.

The Merc ignition is very complex. You need to get the service manual, and follow the testing procedure step by step.

Please someone!

I know when people get there toys running they are no longer looking for help here and therefore never post the common fix. Also I know not all problems are the same, however someone has had same problem and has fixed it. I have service manual and when following test it states if circuit is open on stator like I have explained mine is, replace stator. Of course it is open on a circuit but why should it NOT STARTor at least atempt to start on 3 cylinders? NO SPARK! why would I change a fuel filter and or check compression? NO SPARK! I am going to try and wire both sides to good circuit on stator and see if this will make it run if no one thinks this is a bad idea. If not I am stumped. I am going to get new stator but don't want to overlook the actual problem, as when won't start on mississippi river can get kinda freaky!
