Challanger 1800 c clip install

I am trying to reinstall my drive shafts on my Challenger 1800 with all new carbon rings, rings, and bellows. Problem is that I am unable to pull the floating ring back far enough to install the c clip. Are there any tricks? I've seen two types of Sea-doo floating ring tools out there, will any of them work to slide the floating ring back?

The one on my 787 was hard to move until I cleaned the bilge with Super clean. Now its fairly easy to move, so maybe spray some lube to help things move?

Thanks for the tips. I ended up using channel locks with the handles wrapped the floating ring and pushed it back with two boards. Piece of cake this way.
