My 2003 GTX 4-TEC Supercharged cavitates when I am pulling a skier out of the water. Once I start to plane it stops. However, I am not able to plane unless the skier is experienced and can reduce the load during drag by repositioning his ski forward (slalom). It is just me on the ski and both of us are 200lbs or less. I can pull a wakeboarder or skier using 2 skis out without a problem. With 185hp I would think I could pull a slalom skier out just as easy. The impeller doesnt appear to be damaged. Full out the ski will do 60.

check the impeller, and the wear ring. If they look good, it's time for a new driveshaft seal. (carbon ring)

Hi chirugby,
I have the exact same ski with the exact same problem and Dr. Honda diagnosed the same for my ski. It will be a few weeks before I am able to change the carbon ring and test it in the water. When I get a chance to change my carbon ring I'll post back to this thread and if you get a chance to try this maybe you could post back to this thread also.

Thanks,

Steven

Just an FYI guys... the boat in my avatar wouldn't break 10 mph with only me in it when I first bought it. The wear ring and impeller were both OK... not great, but within the limits.

From the outside, my drive shaft seal looked fine. Once I took it apart, I could see that it was warn... but not too bad, but once I installed the new parts... it was a night a day difference. The boat now will jump when I hit the throttle, and it will pull a wake board without too may issues. (other than it's only 85 hp)

My kids used to haul a picnic table full of other kids with 80hp until branches went into the pump, they still had a heck of a lot of fun even when the wear ring was starting to go.
