2000 sportster LE 951 carb engine

Just bought my first boat, and what do you know it's a project... what else is new.
Just went about removing my engine today, 951 carb'ed would like some input on what everyone thinks the possible failure is.
looks like the connecting rod bearing on the crank went and started overheating until imminent failure occurred.

is it possible to even rebuild this engine after this piece of case is damaged? *please see top of photo reed valve area. damage on inside of block. also the connecting rod piece was dragging on the inside of the case. but no Exterior case damage to my visible eye. no big holes. crank and counter balance shaft still spin and freely too!! no binding.

I remember reading on another members post that piston skirt damage is usually caused by to much piston to bore clearance?

Engine is now out and bay is in the process of much needed deep clean will upload some more photos once complete.

As always Thanks for the input from all fellow members!

Yes, rebuildable. Just file those spots on the reeds area.

You can read all you want about this and that. The 951 is a 200 hour engine. Time for a full rebuild. Seadoo squeezed everything they could have out of a 2 cylinder in that engine.

I love a good project and you have one on your hands. Castrol super clean straight will clean that bilge area like new. Wear gloves or your skin will rot off. Keep the pics coming.

Racerxxx, what would be best source for new crankshaft, balance shaft, pistons, cylinder bores and gaskets sets for my rebuild. also brands that have a good track record.

Have had good luck with WSM parts. Can be sourced from this forms sponsor PWC muscle. Hfgreg can fix you up. Give them a call.

You can also try westsidepowersports.com for parts that you can't find new, or maybe where a used part will do. You just have to call or or text them with what you need. Good Luck.
