2000 sportster LE 951 carb engine
Just bought my first boat, and what do you know it's a project... what else is new.
Just went about removing my engine today, 951 carb'ed would like some input on what everyone thinks the possible failure is.
looks like the connecting rod bearing on the crank went and started overheating until imminent failure occurred.

is it possible to even rebuild this engine after this piece of case is damaged? *please see top of photo reed valve area. damage on inside of block. also the connecting rod piece was dragging on the inside of the case. but no Exterior case damage to my visible eye. no big holes. crank and counter balance shaft still spin and freely too!! no binding.

I remember reading on another members post that piston skirt damage is usually caused by to much piston to bore clearance?

Engine is now out and bay is in the process of much needed deep clean will upload some more photos once complete.
As always Thanks for the input from all fellow members!
