I bought a 1997 Speedster with twin 717s.
Purchased new carbon seal kits from SBT and everything resembles the parts I removed and fits properly. I’m just curious about how strong the bellow should press the carbon seal against the stainless tophat.
With everything installed, including new bumpers in the driveshafts, and the PTO fitting greased, it is not as difficult as some write ups made it sound to push the seal back and get the tophat clipped in. Some people suggested using a board and lever to pry it back…mine was strong but very doable with my bare hands.
The bellows feel maybe softer than the ones I removed? Surely a firmer rubber boot would apply more pressure to the carbon seal against the tophat - but would that be better?
How firm should it be??
