continued with the second carb, was afraid to take out the high and low side needles because i wasnt sure on how i was going to re adjust them .. but its all a learning process right? . i read for 97 xp is 1-3/4 for Low side and 0 for high side.. if im wrong anyone correct me plz.. so i will adjust from there when i get her running.. i didnt touch the idle adjuster because it was idling good when i took it apart .

Here's a good rule of thumb. Always turn the screws IN before you take them OUT. Pay close attention to not crush them in there tight. Just until they give minimal resistance but make sure you're all the way in. Also count the turns in. SO you knew it was set at the factory X turn out from bottom so you could "gauge" it should be close to X turns in know once you get close to bottoming out.

In regards to your fuel level issue, did you pull the baffle out and see if it is still reading the same resistance after it's not working any more? The issue with mine was actually the magnet came loose after riding. I just made a glue fortress around the magnet to keep it in place. Also, make sure the float is oriented correctly. I had mine upside down, headache for a few days. I think most have magnets on top/bottom. I use one only on the bottom, I think.

I'm gonna hate having to take the baffle out for the 4th time but yes ur right... It might be something in there that's not right... It's not like I need the fuel gauge to work but it's something that bothers me u
You know lol ... So I must get it to work!

Absolutely. Trust me, I was in the exact same boat. If you changed the fuse it's likely a float issue. Does the gauge scale out when you power on, to show the gauge itself is good?

bwhite no it doesnt.. But when plugs in the back off the baffle.. When i put possitive to it the gaugue goes up.. ... Well i finally got her running this morning before work and runs like a champ.. Left the high sides at 0 because it seemed to be running fine and left the lows at 1-3/4 see how she runs in the water

so i just got the thing started after a few glitches and i wanted to know if this is normal.. it almost sounds as it has a rev limiter racerxxx

Way back (LOL, like it's way back) in 1988 Seadoo had the rev limiter on their skis.

racerxxx how does that rev limiter actually work and how does it know the jet ski is in the water or out of the water?

It watches the RPM pulse when it hits a set limit and cuts power to the coil I believe and allows the engine to stutter to protect it. You can get aftermarket modules that have user settable RPM limits via a jumper.

well lim going to to try her out in the water today...i read that you should adjust the carb under load.. meaning on water.. but racerxxx can i go on the wate with the air intake off .. just to take a couple of spins and adjust?

Just set teh carbs to teh factory settings, put the air box on and go ride. I have never had to tweak a set of carbs on a stock ski.

If you followed all the directions.............

well i did 1 -3/4 on Low side and 1/4 on High side.. see how she runs.

Should be no reason to mess with settings. If everything is right the ski should run perfect with the stock settings

96 XP800!
Keep the 2 strokes alive!

i read alot of different settings for my 1997 xp .. so i dunno which one is what.. and on the manual very little info.. i noticed its a little on the rich side AdamA96XP .. but i guess rich is better than lean huh? i will put my High side on 0 as i had it at 1/4 now.. but she ran great! had alot of power. and the throttle respnce deff improved after the carb rebuild
