This is a 95 XP 787
Basic rundown ...
Machine was hard to start before so I paid someone to put a RAVE valve in it. (He said that would make a difference and at that time I didnt know anything about these things) It's different now!
The guy ended up replacing all the grey fuel lines, filters, and fittings in the fuel system as well as getting a carb kit for both carbs. GREAT! I thought!
He also did a rebuild of the top end because he found a small chunk missing from one of the pistons. Compression was 145lbs each cyl. and it ran great before rebuild but he did it anyway ... without asking me ... (ya! I wasnt thrilled)
Went to pick up the seadoo and He said he had the carb tuned so I thought cool ... off to the lake! Ready to go!
Got to the lake and had a HECK of a time starting it in the water. Had to floor it and it eventually would start. It smoked like all getout while idling out past the no wake bouy. Got out past the no wake and had to feather the throttle to get it to rev up. It was cutting out. It got going and at about mid-throttle (20-30) that was it ... wouldnt go any faster ... I had it floored and thats all it would do so I just putted around for a while to see if it would clear up ... Heck I didnt know ... I thought it was normal at that point with new pistons and rings ... (again, I didnt know anything about these things until now) Got back to the dock and tried to fire it back up ... I had to floor it again kind of like it was flooded ... it finally started up so my more mechanically enclined brother hopped on it. Exact same thing for him too.
I've come here and looked and searched and read about everything about carbs I can find on the 787's and thats obviously the problem.
So, heres what I've done so far ...
-Set the LSA to 1
-Set the HSA to 0
-Adjusted the throttle cable so both butterflies are as far closed as possible
the mag carb stays open a little bit no matter what ... not sure why or eve if that matters.
the pto carb goes all the way shut
-Fired it up on the garden hose but it still required me to hold it wide open to start
-Set the idle to what I believe to be around 3000rpm ... (no Tach so cant be for sure
-When revving it up on the hose it gets to a certain point (pretty high RPMs) and it seems like it just boggs out.
-I took it to the lake the other night and its still doing the same thing wont rev up high and "get up and go" like it should
-And it's still a PITA to start
I'm at a loss for what to do now. It's got a carb kit ... new fuel lines ... LSA and HSA are re-adjusted ... What now??

thanks for all the information thus far ... You guys have all provided GREAT information.
But, now what!?!
