Carb Issue / Identification

Hey all!

I just picked up a 1994 GTS and am having a weird issue. I already replaced all of the gummed up tempo lines, but when I was looking closer at the carb (previous owner said it seemed like it wasn't getting fuel, just assumed it was the old lines), it looks like the butterfly is upside down, or at least the screws are on the wrong side. am I crazy? The reason I even thought to look is because when I pull the throttle open, it has a 'gummy' spot near closed (in the first image, the idle screw is not touching that plate).

Also, the other thing that I wanted to bring up is the jets that were in this were 62.5 and 145. Did the previous own not know what they were doing, or is this some kind of transplant?

Thanks!

The throttle plate always should be on the engine side so bottom when installed.

If you haven’t followed the carb rebuild thread and used all new genuine Mikuni parts stop everything now and go do that immediately.

Not trying to be snotty, but did you read my post? I think someone else flipped the plate around and it is angled in the wrong direction, can anyone confirm?

Mikidymac said throttle plate goes on the bottom of the shaft. Did you read his post?

I guess I misinterpreted, This carb has a slit in the center of the shaft for the plate to go through the middle. So what counts as 'bottom'?

RE-read MIKI's post.....bottom = engine side WHEN installed.

What I find interesting is this....if you look at the Carb re-build sticky post....there is a photo of looking into the carb and you can see the two little screws holding the butterfly plate but in your photo the screws are not visible (almost like the shaft is backwards?)....how did they assemble that carb with the screws pointing in the opposite direction???? OR am I missing something....been awhile since I've been inside a carb....can't remember

This is from the 1994 manual, single carb. Item 17 is the throttle plate. Looks a little different from the actual pics of the carb. Looks like the plate bolts onto the shaft and not through a slit in the shaft. The parts explosion shows how the plate could be mounted down towards the intake/engine.

Exactly what was I talking about! I'm glad I wasn't the only one scratching my head :)

Hope this helps. I know I got confused with the above helpful words.
That does help, thanks so much!! It is weird that exploded view doesn't show the slit, but oh well.

Thanks everyone, sorry if I was grumpy the other day!

Here’s a Mikuni carb from a 720 for reference. Looking from the bottom up.
