Carb filters

What is the best way to clean those tiny carb filters? I don't want to keep buying $35 carb rebuild kits just to get new filters. Carb cleaner sounds like it will dissolve them. Can I cut it or shorten the period of time they soak? What about a jewelry cleaner?

Tx,
Dale.

I was doing this cleaning today 8/14/08. I tried several soaps and degreasers from the kitchen and jewelry cleaner but the filter was still black with gunk. My wife gave me some "Greased Lightning" degreaser from the laundry room. She got it at Walmart. I sprayed in and pushed a small que tip inside and thought I had torn the cloth because I could see the white cotton inside the filter. That stuff is awsome. I've been working for nearly two hours to clean that thing and this stuff cleaned it in a few seconds. I'm going to soak in alcohol and blow dry. The filter I thought just had a black tint is nearly white. Hope this helps...ron

I used carb cleaner, worked great. Dissolved the crap in the filter quickly and did not damage the filter itself.
