1995 seadoo xp with the 717 motor. motor is out and on the bench. its winter so i figured id freshen the motor up and replace the seals and so forth. got the flywheel to come off with just a tad of heat and a puller so no problems there. went to unscrew the pto (counterclockwise) no good, put a little heat to it and still didnt budge. put a pipe wrench on it and tried it and i sheared off the keyway from the flywheel end. any suggestions here. i did read the manual and it did say i can use a pipe wrench on it to turn it counterclockwise to remove it. till i get that off everything is coming to a grinding halt for now.
thanks in advance...

OK... if you put enough pressure on the PTO to shear the key, while holding it from the flywheel... your crank is done. (it will be twisted)

you need to put a bunch of rope in the spark plug hole on the PTO jug, and that will hold the crank to get the PTO off.

One more thing... if your PTO is that tight, then you will have a VERY hard time getting it off "On the bench." The engine needs to be bolted down so you can get good pressure on it.

ughh... that was a bummer of an answer. didnt figure id twist the crank. guess i dont know my own strength ... lol.. how will i know if i twisted it ? i will try the rope in the jug and clamp the engine to the bench and try it.
thanks

To check the crank index, use an indicator for TDC of each cyl. Use a pointer on
the PTO, mark each TDC. It must be EXACTLY 180*, or its twisted. Most crank
builders true and weld the crank after applying about 40 ton to press the crank
assembly. Thats not something the ordinary shop can do, because of the machining
and technicle know-how ect.

fortunately for me i have a full machine shop and an experienced machinest at my disposal at work along with a 60 ton press and we just ordered a cnc plasma cutter ... ohhh the toys im gonna make....
well hopefully i didnt mess it up but im gonna check it and do whatever needs to be done. i want my toy ready for the nice weather and considering were about to get hammered with a foot of snow it will give me something to do in the garage. thanks for the help guys, as usual its much appreciated. i have learned so much from all of you as well as reading all the posts. you all ever need a good carpenter and im in the area.... well...the thought was there at least...
