Can someone tell me what exactly this Bearing/Boot Located in front of Carbon Seal Does

Hi All

Can someone tell me what this Bearing/Boot thing does located in front of Carbon seal the shop just changed mine is it some type of steady bearing for the shaft?

It's function is to seal the driveshaft and keep the oil in the engine.
Hi Thank You very much for this information, the shop said the bearing were OK but the rubber was damaged so I said change it no problem see pictures attached

Acts as a seal from oil coming out of the PTO where the drive shaft goes in (also kind of acts as a carier bearing funciton), I would not have spent the money for them to change that (especially at a dealership which most likely cost more then what you can get on-line "$65). But good luck
