Calibrate speedometer?

When I bought my 05 Sportster SCIC this year I was slightly disappointed with the performance. It felt pretty fast but evidently was topping-out at about 43mph, even with brand-new impeller and sleeve. This weekend, however, I got out my old Garmin Gecko 201 and, lo and behold, 43 on the speedo was actually 54.5 mph. The speedometer appears to be about 8-13 mph short across its entire spectrum.

Once I got over my pleasant surprise I started wondering what options are available to make the speedo more accurate. From other posts on here I take it BRP speedos are notoriously weak. Are there any fixes? Is the problem usually at the paddlewheel in the water or at the gauge itself?

Grateful for any and all advice.

Dave

Boat speedometers in general aren't real accurate. Mine is off a good 5mph. I'll bet its more accurate at lower speeds.
