For some B.S. reason, Seadoo decided to "obsolete" a particular item, steering cable. Its not like, these boats (97 challenger 1800) are extinct, or recalled and owner giv'n something different. What makes it worse, is that, the cable, yeah, fitting at steering side(helm..?) is same throughout most boats, but its the transom side thats different. Seems, that Seadoo requested this type set-up (bulkhead) with double nut style...i'll give them a double nut..:boxing_smiley:
So, after actually, talk'n w/ da man at Teleflex, sems that anyone in need of this particular cable is S.O.L. have been, call'n, surf"n net,..etc, and NOBODY has this cable, they advertise, but instead of order'n just to tell me, it on back-order, i called them, and they say, o-ya, need to order, so..they dont have clue about, not being able to acquire it.
After bombing everywhere, I was led to company here in Sante fe Springs, CA, which there main objective, is making boat cables..:hurray: Took boat over, dude, looked at cable, and what ya know, make it for 1/2 the cost...SCORED.
So, for now, gonna see if PB-Blaster does trick,(got til sunday nite), if not, I'll rip cableout, and drop it off. Alright, time to take nipple off my coffe cup, but figured, share this little ordeal
BTW..if mods dont mind, will post cable co. info, never know, someone may need them.

That's fine by me to post their info. Glad you were able to find a solution!

Since this is sport boat related, I'm moving the thead to that section.

You know, I work for a major OEM company from Japan(Electronics industry). Its common in our industry to send out "End of life" letters to our customers. In our case, when a system reaches 10 years old we no longer can support it. I'm not sure the legal aspects of this action but I think once a product reaches a certain age(maybe 7 years??) the OEM legally doesnt have to support said product.

Victory...

Well, after a week of try'n, i gave in, and needed to buy a new steering cable (97 challenger 1800). Upon search'n, it was then discovered that this particular cable has become OBSOLETE..:boxing_smiley: With numerous phone calls to different places, with absolutely no luck, stumbled on a place, that directed me to there vendor/supplier. With nuth'n to lose, went over there, boat in hand, and proceeded to show this company my problem.
Upon inspect'nw/ him, seems that, Seadoo used, whats called double-bulkhead design, inwhich, the "transom" used 11/16 fitting and "helm/steering" side, used 5/8 fitting. Problem with that, is the fittings that are required to work, cannot be used for "aftermarket" cable, since this companys' fittings use 11/16 for particular outer cable, and 5/8 for another size outer diameter cable. Along with this, when using 11/16 fittings, it excepts 5/16 dia. inner cable, where 5/8 fittings accommidate 1/4in dia inner cable. With this finding, on legal/safety, I was unable to sway'm into using 1/4in cable, thus no problem with 'helm" side, but not case...
So, with not much left to go by, ended up make'n cable, w/ 5/16 inner dia., and for everything to work, used whats called a "clamp" fitting on steering side.
Left original cable with him, few hrs later, had new cable in hand, woke up this morn'n, after re-clean'n carbs, decided now to install the cable. Low and behold, the darn MOFO fit like a glove, used same hard-ware, what came with boat, and now, after stop'n at DMV for paperwork/stickers, TRUK'N to lake, and rip this bad-boy around..(hopefully silicones' all sealed)

If anyone has this problem, place is called...Control Cables, 9816 Alburtis Ave..Sante Fe Springs, CA 90670...562-949-0455 ask for Vic

last post...

probably sik of this post, keep pop'n up, but just throw'n out one more thing. Contacted them yesterday, let'm know, that cable worked great, and ALSO, asked, if they can make a throttle cable..(with wadded ball ends), and he said yeah, so, looks like peolple be in business if need be, or not wanna pay oem $$$...

That’s a nice find. I think there should be a sticky with things like this for our boats. They are only getting older and parts will be harder and harder to find.

Here is an easy one I found..

The Engine Blower is just a regular “ATTWOOD Turbo 4000". I think Seadoo wants $100 dollars for it. Bass Pro-Shop sells it online for under $30 shipped.

Just following up:

There is a sister branch in Mississauga ON. I'm aiming to overnight the parts there in the next day or two.

If anybody needs a cable, or knows someone, perhaps we can put in a group deal.
