Busted motor mount on water

and i DID put all shims back in exact place, gonna bolt up tonight and see if i get any leaks/wobble outta the driveshaft...if so, looks like im headed to the sbt website....lemme know if anyone wants to split costs on that tool...(have a feeling i wont need it that often)

and SDB, yes, suprisingly, those eye hooks ARE pretty strong...was definitely nervous at first...probably wasnt the best idea, but i work with what i got!

no,im out at a boat dock...not a problem anymore..motors all in,WAS good to go, tested it in water, revved, was fine..no leaks..took it out for a ten min drive, HUGE LEAK from carbon ring area... QUESTION: WHEN I took the original clamp off where u grease the driveshaft fitting, and after i reinstalled a hose clamp instead...it didnt start leaking til after i hit full throttle....do u guys think that where u tighten the hose clamp made the driveshaft not spin true, due to its tiny weight, throwing the carbon ring off kilter? the original circle clamp was perfectly symetrical all the way around..is this my problem, or should i get the alignment tool? i only ask cuz when i revved it in water up to 3k rpms, then i put the seat on and ran full throttle, and thats when the leak started.can that tiny weight difference on the hoseclamp cause that big of a deal at high rpm?

did the shaft meet splines in the pto w/o effort? if yes the the boot has something to do with it.
The manual talks about the length of it when it is and isn't compressed to the SS ring.
Make sure there some resistance?

I have a quote from a "buddy" of mine who works at a seadoo dealership around town he quoted me 200 for mount install and realignment and hes going to pull my pipe and take a look he told me last time he was lookinh in my hull that salt was starting yo come through and i needed my pipe welded soon so depending oh how 96spxpos's adventure goes and how he reports back might v determine if I attempt this or not lol

Installing new mounts is not a $200 job.

To me it sounds like he will install the mounts, align the engine and weld the pipe.

Is that the dealer quote? If he is a buddy ask him if he'll do it on the side in your garage?

remove bolts from top of mani and slide pipe backwards.
Still not worth 200 bucks.

bro, i had a busted pipe, same thing, the plug weld had saltwater rot and pipe was leaking like a faucet...i took the pipe off, LITERALLY took less than ten minutes..the bolt that screws the pipe into the side of the motor is the hardest, but patience and a 13mm socket, with a swivel adapter gets it off fine...
the crook scumbag around the corner even did it for me for $30 and it was fine...take it to any welding shop, i bet they'll do it cheaper than that...
going up north this weekend, and when i get back, i'm gonna try messin with the carbon ring, retainer clip on pto, and maybe even loosen the motor mounts a tiny bit and try shifting...
but yea, you're better off DOING the motor mounts yourself, if you're pretty handy, its not bad, ESPECIALLY IF you have the right tools...

i didnt, didnt even have the ski on a trailer, and was still able to do it..
then, just have your "buddy" align the motor, then he cant charge you 200$

hey 96spxpos, howd the project turn out ... ?

Well, three of the four "quality" motor mounts I bought busted free after not even five minutes of idling, so, back to square one, so im hopefully getting good ones from minnetonka this week...i'll be down here for two weeks so i can work on it the whole time after i get them..
I'll let you know.

There is something wrong somewhere.
Motor mounts just don't break after 5 minutes, find the reason before you break another set.

Any ideas guys????

yea they were used....
I know why they broke....
cuz they were broke already...The moron epoxied them, thinking i wouldnt see it...
turns out, they busted right at the seams from the vibration....
scumbag

Oh no I just bought a used set I got them for 40 bucks shipped hopefully when they come they'll be fine Deff gonna look them over very closely before anything

The guy in Bradenton, it this a shop or a guy who works out of his home/shop/office.
I'm coming down next month.

okay guys a couple questions is someone could put their .02 in it would really help ... i got the mounts on i dont think the shaft is positioned properly im going to attempt to fiddle with it tomorrow some more even tho the shaft was never disconnected from the motor i guess im still going to have to take the jet pump out and try to re align it properly?....and i hit the starter button and all i hear is clicking from the electrical box .... i pulled the box and opened it and i think its coming from the starter seleniod ? im hoping thats what it is theres two red wires going to it ? any suggestions?
