Busted motor mount on water

Busted motor mount on water PICS ADDED!!

Okay so I went out yesterday for what I was hoping to be a nice relaxing cruise the water was like glass it was beautiful so half way between shore And the middle of no where, .... Now I know some of you guys are going to butcher my wonderful terminology for what I'm about to say so bear with me ... The ski stops moving and she's a revving like to I finity and beyond so I pull the choke and let her die out I turn it back out and the motors on but I'm not going anywhere and I look around and my beautiful jetski is taking on water and I mean alot of water, luckily my buddy was driving my fx ho towed me back to shore other wise a good captain always goes down with his ship! After draining a good 3/4 of my hull worth of water I realized my motor mount broke and the motor was about4 inches from where it's supposed to be and ... again forgive me guys but it looks like a where the impellar connects to the motor ? moved letting all water rush in from the impellar? how can i fix this my buddy told me new mounts obviously and just push the metal spindal looking thing back and some marine grease?? please people lol

Dear fatfingers...I mean matty...LOL
it's strange that all 4 mounts broke at same time.
find the cause and replace the mounts, align the engine with the shaft too.
Wait for more answers from the experts here.

well in a way i did it to my self going back to a few of my previous posts i had an idea something was wrong with the mounts my luck they were alll broken to begin with and the motor was slowly moving ...im just worried with that shaft if theyre is anything precautions i have to take to realign it properly
 
There are other thing to watch for.
There are shims in each mount I believe. I think there is a tool that needs to be used.
Search the forum for "align shaft".

Someone else will chime in for the exact procedure to do this.
 
O.K., Here's what I would do. Since the motor has shifted you are going to need to replace the motor mounts rather than just glue them back together. If one or two were broken I would just re-epoxy them.

First remove the pump. Then reposition the motor back on the broken motor mounts. After you get it repositioned epoxy the broken motor mounts. This should get the motor back into original alignment. After the epoxy cures, replace the motor mounts one at a time, using the same shims that the original mounts used. Replace the pump.

This should get you back into original alignment and you won't need an alignment tool. Riva Motor sports (click PARTS) top of the page should have the motor mounts. This is assuming that the rubber on the motor mounts came loose or tore and the mounts didn't pull loose from the hull.

the mounts didnt rip though the hull that was the first thing i checked when i saw my motor nearly into my gas tank ... i have some pics ill post them now showing the damage hopefully you guys can tell me if something else is wrong i didnt see

I can definately see there is a space between the carbon ring and the carrier, but I honesly can't see the problem with the motor mounts. Maybe I'm not seeing it but the mounts look O.K. to me.

:agree: that space between the carbon seal and the stainless steel carrier would flood your hull in no time. i don't see the damage to the motor mounts either. Can you physically rock the engine?
 
Mine looked the same way.... all four motor mounts on mine just finally gave out the other day, and im in the process of replacing them...the reason you cant see anything wrong with the motor mounts is bc of the way he took the pic..mine were the same way...the black mounts were still attached to the crossmember, essentially looking like everything is okay, until you lift or move the motor, and the metal plates that mount to the hull are STILL on the hull, and the donut is NOW on the crossmember...hence the fact that you could technically wipe your hand clear under any of the motor mount areas if the motor is lifted a little..
You must've been hitting some PRETTY NASTY waves for your motor to almost hit the gas tank and to have that space in there, but thats def where your water is coming in...(on the carbon ring/driveshaft area)...
My whole carbon area looks normal, but if i revved the motor, it would shift to the left and let water in...
*** IMPORTANT ***
If you're gonna wing it and NOT use the alignment tool, DONT just rely on memory to remember where your factory shims are...right it down, trust me, you'll forget...
I would put them in EXACTLY where they came off, so when replacing mounts, take note of HOW MANY shims come out under EACH mount..
I noticed that some shims were put in BOTH on top(where it bolts to the crossmember) AND on the bottom where the motor mounts bolt to the hull...They were put there for a reason, and try to put them back in as exact as possible, or you'll have a catastrophe once the ski hits the "agua"...
 
Take note of the size differences...
from the pics, it looks like the same ski as mine...oh, just looked, it is!
yea the top one's in the pic are from the top side of the mounts,
the bottom ones are the shims from the bottom sides of the mounts,where it bolts to the hull..
Noticed you're from South Shore Long Island...
Grew up in Suffolk County, Ronkonkoma/Islip for 21 years....
Tell ya one thing..definitely DON't miss those winters....at all....

Write everything down and take close-up pics if you think that will help.

Oh of course..im getting the tool...but i heard people have "skimped out" on it...either bc they're proffesionals, too cheap, or its a P.O.S. and they don't care, and just keep aligning it and adjusting shims until it doesn't leak..

The problem is getting the alignment tool, mostly only dealers have them. They're expensive to buy for one time use, most people that have them don't rent them. If you can find one let me know.

im in west babylon and the winters are still horrible ... and the pics really dont do the justice its a long story but give the meat and potatoes of it my truck broke down so my buddy took my ski and docked it went back to my house dropped my trailer off and got my other ski came back and left that trailer at the dock ... so when she was sinking i threw it on the wrong trailer and got all the water out and actually picked up the motor and attempted to push it back trying to stop the bleeding, knowing i had about a 25 min wait untill he could drop the one ski off and get my trailer ... which did the trick for the most part ..
 
SBT has the alignment tool for $150.00. If you don't want to keep it you can return it for a partial refund. I would not recommend just trying to get all the shims back in the correct spots and not using the alignment tool. I just installed my rebuilt engine in my 98 GSXL and all the mounts had been left with the shims still in place and the engine was not aligned. It took a long time and a lot of removing and replacing shims before I got it lined up.
 
That's good to know, looks like the way it's setup is buy for $150.00 and return it an get $75.00 back. The way to go would be to buy it and either keep it or re-sell it on this forum, I'm sure you could get $100.00, hell I might even buy it.

I'm in agreement about not seeing motor mount problems. It looks like it could be that the clip that holds the ring against the rubber is gone and allowed the gap. But that wouldn't explain why the drive shaft wasn't engaged.

I should have all my motor mounts installed today after work...installed all four today on lunch, and only have 1 of 2 bolts left to put in the last mount...let me tell ya...what a biatch!..the motor on the davit just went out, so ive been putting the mounts in, lifting the motor with crow bars, sticks, etc...this last bolt is bein a summ umma b****! anybody have any ideas on what else i could use to hold this motor up another few inches so i can get this last bolt in, and STILL have ten fingers when I report back tonight?
