Bogging down without half choke?

Went out for the 1st time since cleaning rave valves and it would start fine and idle fine but giving it throttle would cause hesitation and kill it half the time. If I played with the throttle back and fourth constantly I could get it up to speed to plane but it topped out at 5k rpm. I then found a sweet spot with half choke that would let me rev to 7.5k or so and top out at 45mph. This half choke also helped it accelerate much quicker, but from idle to 2k it tried to die cause of the choke. I also had some cavitation which I felt might be caused from these throttle issues. Any suggestions? I am going to put in new spark plugs properly gapped, clip spark plug wires, pull air box and clean carb. I'm assuming it is the carb, but if anyone thinks it might be something else please help.

Time to clean the carbs.

The cavitation, and the throttle issues are not related.

Sounds like a lean bog. Too much air, not enough fuel. X2 on the carbs.

Do I need to pull the airbox to get the carb off? Also can I just soak the carb or do I need to break it down and how to go about doing that? Thanks. Sorry so long for reply. Power surge took my computer with it.
