bilge pump

So I tested my bilge pump today, put the hose in the engine compartment and filled it up. The pump did not turn on until I hit the switch on the dash. Do the water sensors go bad? If so can I just replace the sensor or is it all one unit?

Fuse

It could be the float switch but it could also be a fuse. There is a separate fuse for the automatic operation.
