Bilge Pump Question

I have a 97 Seadoo Challenger.

Do bilge pumps have a check valve in them to not let lake water to flow back into the pump? Mine does not have one, or it is not working and I want to make sure that it is normal.

I found this out while I am trying to figure out where water is coming into the boat. The bottom of the bilge fills up slowly, even when the engine is not running.
I looked around the whole bilge area drain plugs, drive shaft etc...

Nope... there isn't a valve in it... but the opening of the pump should be above the water line... and the hose inside the boat should be looped up high enough that the water won't come back in.

With that said... the driveshaft seals on these boats leak by design. That's how they stay cool... and that's why seadoo boats are not supposed to stay in the water overnight. (you may find a sunk boat)
