Bilge pump problem

My bilge pump will not turn on with the rocker swith. I pulled up the engine cover to inspect the pump, and once I removed the pump, turned it upside down, it worked. It seems to me the pump (and the automatic feature) works, I just can't turn it on manually. Any ideas? Thanks. Oh by the way, it is a rule mate pump with the built in float swith.

If it's a pump with an internal float... then I don't think you can turn it on manually. Your switch puts power to the pump... but the float ultimately turns it on and off.
