Best time to buy end of season?

Im in the market for a seadoo speedster 150 155HP with tower.

Ive searched everywhere, and nothing so far.

Should I expect more or less inventory as the year winds down?

Am I running out of time to get a good deal on a 2009, or will more become available towards the end of the year and off season?

Need to know if I need to make a decision real quick or be patient.

thanks!

On a new 2009 or 2010, inventory is only going to go down. Prices will also go down though. You have the upper hand. They have boats that need to be sold during the fall and winter.

As the supply of old left over models dwindles down, the prices will go back up for the 2011's. Now really is the best time to find one. I would try all the dealers you can and look for an 09 for the best price. Like i said before, dont let distance scare you, boats can be shipped cheap.

I found that one I told you about before. It was an ebay auction that ended. It is a 215 with tower at Smith Powersports in NC. I dont know what they will sell it for, but I know they are very competitive and are one of the dealers that have been known to cut prices crazy low to get rid of stuff.

It is ebay item 200514416081

Or you can find it on their site,

I disagree.

Although the selection is better right now... the best prices will be after the first of the year. The dealers are hungry, and SeaDoo generally has better rebates in Jan and Feb.

Last spring (late winter) I saw an 08 left over 180SE for $17999. (in the link, they are still asking $23k for an SE) That's because SeaDoo was offering $7k off... and the dealer was willing to drop their profit margin. Oh... and at one point... they were offering a 5 year warranty.

Right now, the dealers are willing to take a loss... but SeaDoo corporate (Bombardier) isn't offering much to help with the price.

If you have a specific boat in mind... you are better off to buy when you have a selection... but if you are flexible... the deals will get better.

Doc, I think in the past you would be correct. Last spring there were a lot of awesome deals on a lot of left over 08's. There was a big supply, the economy sucked and lots of dealers had stuff sitting they needed to unload.

However, this year I think it is totally different. They knew the economy sucked and ordered less and I think BRP even produced less. So you dont see nearly as many sitting around as you did last year. I have looked at a lot of dealers and their inventory is pretty slim. Yeah you might have better incentives and stuff in the spring, but I think overall the availability will be much lower, and with less out there I dont think you will see the crazy bargains we saw this past spring.

Im more concerned about getting one at all than getting a really great price. I really want the 155HP for lower maintenance costs, but those seem to be the MOST rare :( Id settle for a very fair or good price. Just having a very hard time finding one within driving distance and am worried no more will show up in the next couple of months.

The only one in driving range right now is a
2008 155HP for $13900

I really want to be within driving range because its hard to buy a boat and have it shipped that you have never even seen or inspected.

Here ya go....it is an 08 155 left over for 13889 in VA. I would not pay that..but if you could get it for like 11,000 it is a steal. You ned to stress to them that when you buy this and use it 1 time, you have a used 2 (almost 3) year old boat.

Well darn, I just saw your other post. It must be the same one you found.

Not at all. I drove 10 hours for a used boat. Just because you make the drive doesnt mean you have to buy it. The sale was contingent on me inspecting and water testing the boat. Dont forget you are looking at brand new boats. It is no different than a new car. It doesnt matter where you buy it, if you have issues, it will be fixed at any sea doo dealer.

You may be right. I think the dealer close to me still has a few '08 boats left... but the prices now, aren't as good as last spring. (and I don't think he brought in more than 4 or 5 new boats this year)

One thing you have to remember... a dealer bought the boat... and yes, they may be willing to take a loss to move it... but they aren't going to kill them selves just because the boat is 2 years old... new.

When you see a smoking good deal, a few things could have happened.

1) They bought the inventory from a dealer who went out of biz.
2) The incentives from the manufacture are good. (We don't have that right now)
3) They have a bank who will give them cash on the back side for using them to finance. (can be up to $3k on a 30 year boat loan)

Since I have a shop, I work close with a few dealers, and I know what they can, and can't do... and since I'm a biz owner... I know when it's time to just take a loss.

Sorry to get a little off track.

Anyway... if you want a very specific boat, and are worried about not being able to get it... then buy now.

Also... like Foster said... you may have to drive... but be ready to drive home without it. I know that sux... but if you aren't willing to walk away... then you will be at the mercy of the person/dealer selling it.

The boat in my avatar was 4 hours away. Every boat I found local was way over priced. I found this one, and it needed love... and I knew it... so after a week or so of getting the price to where it needed to be... I spent dang near an entire day getting it.

Good luck, and post some pics when you get it.
