When applying the lanyard to the post, sometimes it beeps, sometimes it does not. Tonight it did not beep at all (about 6 starts) What does the beep indicate and is it something to worry about?
Also want to thank everyone for all the input on the carbs and grey fuel line. I cleaned the carbs and replaced the fuel lines and it starts like never before. Now i have to deal with low comp... winter project!
Thanks again.
Ron

Beep Codes from 97 Owners Manual

Here is what the 97 owners manual says:
2 short beeps = Engine can be started
1 long beep = bad connection, or defective lanyard, or improper operation of MPEM
4 long beeps = no communication between MPEM and DC-CDI module (says to check fuse or holder relay in the main electrical box)
8 short beeps = Defective MPEM
Continuous beeps = Engine overheated

I've read that sometimes the beeper can go out and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

The key or key reader can also go bad causing the Ski to not recognize it.
Simple thing you can do is push the start button five times while the key is not inserted. Then put the key on and try starting it. If it starts your fine, if you hear a beep look at what the previous guy said and that will tell you what is wrong.

This morning I installed the key and no beeps but the engine started no problem. Tried pressing the start button 5x' without key and yet no beep.
Like I said it starts just fine. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Thanks
Ron

It is not something that you should be overly concerned about. The beeper is probably just going bad. The only reason you really need one is to warn you about overheating.
