I pulled the boat to get it cranked. I cranked it and then put the hose on it wiht little pressure and after about 5-10 minutes i heard a long beep that didnt quit until i cut the motor off. I do have a little bit a fuel(less then a 1/4 tank) could this have caused the beep? Thisis the first time I cranked it since september. Its been in storage for the past few months.

Could it be possible that i wasnt giving it enough water and it started over heating. I had the water real low because i was scared to give it too much and flooding.

Over heating.....

Yes, you were overheating the engine.

When you flush the M-2 engine, the manual states you hook it up and flush the engine for 10 minutes. The water should be fully on.

Most of the water will dump through the jet pump and expansion chamber so the water does not need to be barely on. From members I've spoken with in the past, they say it's hard enough to just try and keep the block full of water.

The manual says 10 minutes but I think a lot of the M-2 owners will disagree with this (from their personal experience).

You will likely hear from other Merc owners on this topic............

Im going to take the boat out tomorrow. Immediatly when i heard the beep I cut the motor off. DO you think any damage occured from it overheating?

I just did the same thing. Pulled the boat out of the garage hooked up the hose let it run and then started the boat. Somewhere between 5-10 mins the beep started. I shut off the boat immediately. I wasn't worried about damage at all until I read your post wondering about it. In my unproffesional opinion there would be no damage caused because the warning system tells you before it is too late. But a little reassurance from some of the more experienced guys out here would be beneficial.
