OK so I am very new to sea doo. I just bought a 2000 millennium edition GTX. The battery was bad so I replaced and also replaced the spark plugs while I was at it. Took it out once and ran great but a week later my brand new battery was dead. Had to charge it and barely cranked my unit up on the water. I may have a bad battery. Any input? Also my maintenance light came on with a "12V low" prompt. In addition I was only able to go about 34mph tops. Do sea doos limit your output if maintenance light is on?

What brand was the battery?
You need to test to see if charging system is working. At about 3000 rpm you should be over 13 volts.

VIP to check the charging voltage as mikidymac says.

I just went thru this with my 01 GTX RFI. It was the rectifier and I had to replace it.

Yes, battery, rectifier, OR, is it cranking and starting easily outside of the water (not under load)?

You should not use a charger and start the ski/boat. It can damage the MPEM. And they are expensive to replace.

Get the battery load tested and let us know what they say. We will guide you from there.

Only with a charger attached. Once I have a charger attached to it, it cranks right up.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!! you cant do that. your mpem is just loving you right now. step one take the battery off and changed and test that then lets go from there.

OK I will never put the charger on again. Had no idea about that. Thanks for the input guys. I'll let you know what it reads. Right now the battery will not fire the engine alone. Though it did the day I bought it.

You can jump from a car/truck. But it can not be running as the amperage from the alternator can cause damage.

If that is the voltage after charging that thing is bad. I would have it load tested but it looks like it is going to fail.
Any of the Fuel injected skis need a super strong battery. If they get anywhere below 12.0V they turn on the Low Voltage light and sometimes won't even start even though they will crank.

Another question relevant or not. Does a Seadoo charge the battery while engine is going? Like I said was able to get it started the other day and rode for about 45 mins but never could go over 35. Again may just be a bad battery but wasn't sure if the battery was just for startup or now. The 12V Low never went away

They charge when running but only over abort 2,000 rpm. They are not like a car alternator and make just enough power to keep the battery up but they are not very good at charging a dead battery.

Took the battery back to advance. The batteries have all been sitting on shelf for over 6 months. They tested it and it is in fact low on charge. He's charging it up now for me. Fingers crossed this fixes my issues
