Battery Switch - What type to use.

All,

Not sure what switch to use. Do I need one with AFD or without? What type of alternator does the Rotax engines use (2007 Challenger SE).

The Rotax uses a magneto not an alternator. Go to west marine ans look at the selection. You need just a 3 position switch, if your using 2 batteries.

The ones I looked at (Westmarine - $39) still gives you the option of getting it with the AFD or not. Do I need to use the $100+ switch?

AFD is Alternator Field Disconnect. Since ROTAX uses a magneto, go with the switch without AFD?

From the description of a GUEST switch:
"When using with alternators with internal voltage regulators, be sure to choose a switch without AFD."
