Hello,
I have a 02 challenger. Yesterday I was pulling folks on the tubes and wakeboard. I always shut the boat off and leave the battery on while swapping people around. I have never had an issue doing this in the past.

Well after about 5-7 times of this yesterday I got a long beep while starting the boat. Then the followlng time the boat wouldnt start. All I got was a clicking sound the first crank..then no clicking all proceding cranks.

We let the boat sit for about 30 minutes prior to being towed back to the docks. The first crank would try to start but nothing. It felt like the battery did not have enough juice to turn the motor over. All other cranking times the battery wouldnt even give me a click.

The battery I have is a Napa replacement battery thats 6 months old. I have promariner battery tender hooked up. I thought maybe it was not charging it correctly. Well 24 hours later the boat cranked up fine. So Im assuming the battery tender is doing its job.

What do you think would drain the battery so quick? Bad batttery?

Thanks

Be sure the wires to the battery are clean and tight. Use a multi meter on the terminals of the battery, and check the battery voltage with out the engine running. It should be around 12.8 volts +-. Start the engine and check it again. it should be putting out about 14.4 volts +-. If it doesn't change, the battery isn't charging. I would have the battery Load tested too at like Auto Zone for free. If it has a bad cell or 2 it would do the same thing too.

So after two seconds of removing the flywheel cover I found the problem. The altantor belt was shredded. I should have checked it prior. Ive never swapped a belt out before. But it doesnt look to hard.

Looks like the part number is 57-82850710. Hopefully I can take the old belt to autozone and they can match it for a fraction of the price and convience of getting it today.

Any suggestions and wise words of wisdom before I go for it?

Thanks,
T
