Hello...I'm new to this forum and a new owner.
Question...I would like to switch over to maintenance free batteries.
I have 2 each 2007 Sea-doo GTI SE 155 4-Tec 1494 cc jet skis.
I think they call for 12 volt 20 amp batteries (not sure about the amps). Do you have any recommendations?
Thank you

Battery Question

Thanks Tony...I looked at Sears (Die-hard) and couldn't find one that matched the 1494 cc's, although they did have one that was for the 1500 cc GTX 4-Tec that would work. They probable round the cc's up to 1500???

The book is just going to round off the engine size... but after thinking about it... I think your ski needs a 30 AH battery. (not the 20)

I don't do a lot of work with the 4-tech's... but as I recall, it should take a 30CL-B type battery.

Battery Question

Thanks to all...after researching I found a battery that will work. It’s a DEKA PN: ETX30L. After much research and questions it seems this battery gets good reviews from many operators. The only issue I found with the DEKA ETX30L is it needs a spacer to make the battery sit taller in the battery bracket to ensure it fits snug. DEKA does offer part number ETX30LA and it’s specific for Seadoo installation.
It's the same battery as the ETX30L but it comes with a plastic tray that fits under the battery to raise it up. You could also use a rubber strip or wood if the ETX30LA was unavailable.
Here's a quote from a web site:
"DEKA ETX30LA Watercraft battery for Bombardier Sea Doo models GTX 4 Tec and RXP years 2003 to 2007. Our batteries for Sea-Doo are made with the highest quality parts and are guaranteed to be compatible with your original recreational equipment. Built with advanced technology to insure the highest quality standards for reliability, durability and performance. This battery comes with a full one year warranty from Advanced Battery Systems, Inc.
This battery is made in U.S.A. by East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc."

Sorry for all the info but it may help someone else who wishes to change to a AGM style.
Thanks again
Pete

Battery Questions

Jim,
First let me say I’m by no means a battery expert…yes you can purchase batteries at Walmart, however it depends on the make and model. I spent many hours yesterday researching battery types, compatibility, durability and warranty issues and the name that kept popping up as one of the better batteries was the DEKA brand. DEKA is made in the US and comes with a 1 year warranty. They also make batteries for Harley Davidson. If you Google DEKA or even type ETX30L in your search you’ll come up with many brands using that part number (Magna Power, Big Crank Power Sports, and a few others). Bottom line is they’re all made by East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc. using the DEKA brand name. I found prices ranged 75.00 – 150.00 depending on the vendor and brand name they’re sold under. When in doubt just ask them if it’s made by East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc. (DEKA). I think the ETX30L is used mainly in 4-tech models. They make many more models so I’m sure they have one for your ski. While buying a Walmart brand may be a little cheaper you get what you paid for.
Hope this helps
Pete

Pete,

Great feedback as I do not want to have starting issues out on the water just to save $30.00.

Take care,
Jim

Crown Battery 30 CLB

Crown Battery in Fremont, Ohio http://www.crownbattery.com/ manufactures many of the batteries you'll find with different labels on them in marine stores and other retailers under their own label as well as many other name brands. Through personal connections I know that they "collaberate" with the Penn company referenced previously. Crown has a retail shop on site at their manufacturing fascility. You can reach them by calling 419-334-7181 - ask for the battery retail store. They have the 30 CLB for $77.00.

I can not personally attest to the Crown 30 CLB ski battery but will be using them when my current batteries get week. However, I have been using four of their "big" deep cycle batteries to power the house and motors on my 36' Egg Harbor and another one for the generator. I got four full years plus out of my first set and replaced them last year. I've been extremely pleased with Crown and they have a great warranty if needed. They make batteries for everything under the sun, if you've got an strange application and don't know where to turn, give them a shot.

Can you purchase Seadoo compatible batteries at Walmart?

Wal-Mart batteries SUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've personally seen 3 that wouldn't take a charge, new, out of the box.

Thanks for the AGM info.

Battery Questions

Tony, I heard the same about Walmart batteries. I think it comes down to "you get what you pay for"…Everything starts with the battery so it's worth doing the homework to find a good dependable one. I'm getting ready to buy the DEKA for my 2 skis. I own a 05 Harley Road King and it still has the same battery from the factory. As I mentioned earlier East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc makes Harley Davidson’s And DEKA’s batteries so I’m sold on them. I’m sure there’s other reputable companies out there it just takes a little searching. This is a good form to share info, especially if it provides folks information, answers and solutions related to the PWC world.
