I am new to this sight and did some searches but still have a question on my 2005 rxt.
when testing my battery without the machine running it tests 12.4 volts. shouldnt this number be more around 12.8? it starts up but seems like it could very well not start if you know what i mean.i charged it on 2 amps for 6 hours, let it sit over night, and then got that 12.4 number. is my battery half dead?

thanks for your help.

Brett

Hey Bret, I found your post...Check the ground wire going to the seadoo by the starter. It should be clean and have a good connection. It is possible that your battery has a bad cell or 2 and not delivering the AMPS needed to start the engine. It could show full charged but only have 3-5 cells good. Have it load tested at like Auto Zone for FREE to know for sure..

THANKS for the reply. the machine starts up, but it just acts like it hesitates for a split second before doing it. I was just thinking the battery should test higher, more like 12.7 or 12.8. i will check it out.

The volts are ok....it could have many dead cells and not have the AMPS...Usually the battery will receive 14.8+- with the engine running 12.4+- not running is normal.

Your missing the point...it's not the volts...you need the AMPS, to supply enough power to start the seadoo. It could cause a surge if it isn't getting enough power...or leave you stranded in the water with no start power. Get it load tested so you know, and check the ground wire for a good connection.

ok, ok lol , i will take it out and get it tested. i was missing the point but understand now. i will check the ground wire also. i will post the results tomorrow. if i remember i need to take the black wire off first then the red? reverse to red first then black when putting it back in.

final answer

Ok, i took the battery out after checking the ground wires. my dealer tested my battery and it did not have enough good AMPS, and was told i was lucky it even started. the battery was also bowed on the sides. I bought a new interstate 30l sealed battery which set me back $156 after taxes, i hope it last a few years lol.... thats for all the help.
