Chaincreations

I am putting my 787 back together and am not sure how to align the balance shaft and the crank. There is a green tooth on the balance shaft and a green tooth on the crank gear. Are these the two marks the book talks about? I expected something more permanent. I want to make sure before I put her back together. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Balance shaft / crankshaft alignment

There IS a notch on the balance shaft, but there IS NOT a notch on the gear on the crankcase. I bet I have looked at it for an hour. I only have the two green painted teeth and the green painted tooth on the balance shaft is by the notch. Is there a way to visibly look at the crank and the shaft to see if the green marks are what I need. The book says to align the notches also. Frustrated. Ideas?

just looked at my crank, and its got the notch on the crank gear. Its the side the gear, that faces the pto.

Notch on Driveshaft gear.

The gear on the driveshaft has a few pit marks from rust. Could one of these pitmarks be the notch? I still can not see the notch. Still frustrated. Is there a way to set the balance shaft and the driveshaft without aligning the notches? Thanks for your help.

Still no luck

I went out with a flashlight and a magnifying glass. If there ever was a mark on that gear it is gone. There has to be a way to configure the balance wheel weights and the counterweights on the crank case. If not, I have no idea of what to do other than order a new gear and install it on the crankcase. Thanks for your advice. Anyone else got any ideas?

cranshaft and counter balance shaft alignment

hey man - me too! same problem. ive looked for ever. I did find the one on the counter balance fast and easy but not the one on the crank (787 engine). Need I first remove the bearing that sits in front of ithe gear and behind the PTO seal to see the mark on the crank? i could only imagine this is why. I just slpit this baby open and wana make sure ive got it marked before I pull it out for the parts washer. I opened it to check lower end, ended up pretty grimey here in and needs to be cleaned. i attached a picture of the notch taht I can see which is on the counterbalance along with with notch I cant see. check it out, lemme know!!!! currently still aligned correctly since I havent pulled it out yet,so the other notch should be right there where it would align....
