ok it started with my son pulling the 98 spx off the trailer and loosing a flip flop in the lake as I pulled off he started the ski and said it reved but would not move then it finally started to move so he went on riding when he came in he said that it would not get to full speed and would bog down.... After looking into the impeller I found his flip flop!!!! I got the flip flop all removed and took the ski out and it will not fully rev it bogs down at full throtle seems to idle fine just bogs??? What are your ideas for me to check?

So my son then went to the 96 xp and was pulling his brother tubing. I did not see them for a while and went to check on them. I found them swimming the jetski back because they had sucked the ski rope up!!! They say they turned it off immediatly and by the looks of it the rope is just wrapped around the shaft and not thru the impeller. any precautions before I remove the rope?

Please help. The spx bogging down now after sucking the flip flop thru the impeller has me baffeled and I need these fixed for the weekend.

Thanks
Desperate Dad

Desperate...do compression on spx, with flip-flop in there, your cooling system was altered, so its possible your motor got hot, and possibly ruined the pistons.

With the xp, your best bet, is to pull the pump, beats hanging undaneath for hrs with a razor attached to a piece of pvc, cut'n away, also, then you can inspect the impellor and wearring for damage.

I had the same problem no flip flop but similar problem, rode around for 15 min just fine. can throttle the engine and revs high then would bog down. shut it off then worked fine for another 5 mins. i thought at first that i just lost charge to the battery. went home charged it and it started right up, I also changed the plugs, I have been reading around the forum for answers. kinda got all kinds of different ideas. dont know which ones to try first.

Ya, I have been searching the site also and am not sure I have found any consistancy to the answers.

My 98 SPX that the flip flop was sucked thru is the one that now bogs down. it starts up and will idle fine and every once in a while it will rev up and go but for the most part you can hold the throttle open wide and it just bogs and barely goes. if you screw around with the throttle sometimes it will rev and take off then bog agian??? seemed like a fuel problem to me. I will check compression just to make sure.

I am open to ideas if anyone has one.

I have a 95 SPX which is bogging down also. Initially (15 min.) it ran Ok.. 46 mph with two aboard. Then it started bogging down, start up Ok, then blah. I am assuming fuel problem and am working thru steps in JPX submission. Grey fuel lines don't seem too bad but am replacing some. Cleaned fuel filter but it wasn't bad. Drained out fuel tank, removed fuel baffle parts flushed tank clean, etc. Now to the carbs. I wonder about the fact one of my water outlet tubes, the one from the engine, isn't putting out much of a stream, as opposed to the one from the exhaust tube.

Tell me about it. I'm having the same symptoms on my 2005 3d. I just took apart the exhaust (possible exhaust leak choking the engine) and cleaned up the Rave valves. I think im in the same boat as you if this doesn't work. I'm putting it in the water on Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes. U can check out my progress in the 3d thread
