Bought this 1997 GSX a few weeks ago. PO said it had a bog. So I took apart carbs, replaced small filters and diaphragms, set pop off (25 psi or so), new fuel lines, new fuel selector, cleaned raves, repaired water regulator (tiny screw for the clamp came off), completely drained fuel system and added new gas. New plugs and compression is about 150 and 150.
What the problem is, it will sometimes only accelerate to 5000-5250 rpms and hold there for a few seconds before taking off and ending around 6700 rpms. Now I can make the problem worse by loosening the rave springs. It runs best with the rave springs all the way in. Do the springs wear? Could my raves be opening too soon?
