I was talking with a friend of mine from work about wanted to grab a pwc and he mentioned he had a Polaris that he keeps at his grandmother's house in Florida.. He said he was thinking of getting rid of it since he doesnt get to use it all that often.. Only when he goes on vacation there in summer.. He said it has low hours.. He estimated that it was about 50 at most. He said it was a 2000 model year and has a 1200cc motor.. He wasnt too sure of the model name but said he had the paperwork at his house and he would get more info for me.. I asked how much he was looking for it and he said 3000.. I checked nada and all the models for that year come in at around 1200 or so... Imean he said the unit is immaculate and excellent condition... My main concern is if something does go wrong in the future is it worth it to get a Polaris being that the company is no longer in service.. I mean if I need some kind of repair where would you bring it? Can any mechanic work on these?? I just dont want to get ripped because they are no longer in business and finding people that are qualified might be hard. Lastly, I don't want to give the guy a hard time but what would be a fair price to offer?? I mean like I said NADA says around 1200 for most of the units.. some are lower like 900.. I mean I understand that its in great condition but I also dont want to overpay...

For $3k you could get more of a ski. I looked at a few polaris and they were just no good. If you buy a ski I can't stress enough to take it for a test drive.I looked at a lot of good "land" ski's. I would roll the dice for 1k or less ,but not 3k

Yea.. I just figured that since I know the guy and how he takes care of his stuff then I knew the ski was in definate good condition.. No wondering how the ski was taken care of.. I would prefer a yamaha or sea doo being that the dealer that sold my boat has certified service for both brands.. they actually have a yamaha for sale but they want 3800 for it which is right in book value but it has 200hrs and again you run into the problem of not knowing how it was treated..

Are Polaris skis worth it? Sure. They were American made, and Polaris is still in Biz... they just don't make watercraft anymore.

Right now, I'm finishing up a Polaris Genesis project. It's a 2000 with only 78 hr's on the clock. I found a bunch of electrical gremlins, and I fixed them all. The one thing I needed to order was a start/stop unit. It does a few things, but one of it's functions is to turn on the 12v to the accessories after the engine starts. (like the trim, reverse, or bilge pump) I looked on line for a few places... and I ordered a brand new part from an on-line PWC dealer. So... new parts are still available.

Now... for $3k... I wouldn't buy it. It's over priced for a 10 year old ski that has obviously seen salt water. And a low hour salt water ski is worse than a high hour ski. Why???? because if they didn't clean or flush it... it sat for a long time with salt attacking parts.

I would offer him $1500 to $2000 depending on the model. (if you actually want it)

The 1200 skis for the year would have been the Genesis (4 person) the Virage (3 pass) or the Pro 1200. (2 pass)

FYI... I paid $1000 for my Genesis.

Thanks for the input.. Like I said.. The guy is a really good friend of mine and I know he takes care of all of his toys and gets all the proper maintenance done and flushes after every use.. It must be the Pro 1200 though as he said it was justa 2 seater... Again NADA shows it at 1070.. Maybe I will print it out and show him and see what he says.. He might not even want to sell it once he sees its value lol...
